Character profile
Feb. 9th, 2012 11:42 pmJulie comes from the Werewolf: the Apocalypse end of the World of Darkness. In this modern fantasy setting, Werewolves – the Garou – were created by the grand earth spirit Gaia to be her defenders against the Wyrm, the cosmic force of balance gone mad and turned destructive god. Since the dawn of time, they've been fighting their increasingly hopeless war, while their prophecies always told them that one day there would come a time for a last battle – what they call they Apocalypse – and that they would lose. This fate had always shaped all their lives.
The Garou share their world with a variety of other supernaturals – Vampires, Mages, Faeries, all sorts – but are for the most part bitter enemies of those others. Only a rare few on each side realize that all supernaturals share apocalyptic prophecies, and will probably share the same fate. In Julie's world, these few have for the past decade been moving to form the One World by Night movement.
Julie's mother, Blaze "First-Frontier" Lewis, is a key figure in this movement; an extremely powerful, widely known and respected Garou elder (Glasswalker Theurge, for the WtA-savvy). Her father, Art Steinberg, was a techno-Mage (Son of Ether) who helped establish initial ties with the Werewolves before his untimely death. But despite this illustrious origin, Julie was born a normal human who in her fifteen years has never exhibited any unusual powers.
This fact has pretty much shaped her life. Her mother is a legend who lives among legends, and she was raised at the heart of the shadow world, trying to manage a normal childhood and early teens while supernaturals of all sorts conspired around her. The result is a somewhat awkward, secretive, independent girl with hilariously huge mommy issues, always torn between wanting to be powerful and useful, to fight her mother's war, and being bitter about being involved in it to begin with. Thankfully, she also inherited her mother's resilient nature and general affection for and skill with people, happy to solve others' problems to forget her own. She tries hard to actually live life rather than just spend them waiting for the end. Sometimes it works.
